  • You are not defined by your challenges: The difficulties you face do not define who you are as a person. They are just temporary obstacles that you can overcome.
  • You have the strength within you: You may not realize it, but you have incredible inner strength. Therapy can help you tap into that strength and develop coping skills to navigate life’s challenges.
  • Your feelings are valid: Your emotions are real, and it’s okay to feel the way you do. You don’t have to hide or suppress your feelings. In therapy, we create a safe space for you to express yourself without judgment.
  • Change is possible: You have the potential to change and grow. It may take time, effort, and patience, but with the right support and guidance, positive change is achievable.
  • Confidentiality: Anything you share with a mental health counselor or coach is kept confidential, except in situations where there’s a risk to your safety or the safety of others. Trust is a cornerstone of our relationship

Mental Health Treatment Areas

It is not uncommon for adolescents and young adults to experience some forms of mental health issues. Here are some common mental health counseling issues experienced by teens and college students:

  • Depression: May experience feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest in activities. Depression can affect their school performance, relationships, and overall well-being.
  • Anxiety disorders: Generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, and other anxiety-related issues are common. Anxiety can manifest as excessive worry, fear, and physical symptoms.
  • Self-esteem and body image issues: Some may struggle with self-esteem and body image concerns, which can lead to feelings of inadequacy, social withdrawal, and the development of unhealthy coping mechanisms.
  • Self-harm and suicidal thoughts: Some may engage in self-harming behaviors or have thoughts of suicide. This is a serious concern that requires immediate attention and intervention.
  • Eating disorders: Anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorders are common among adolescents, often tied to body image and self-esteem issues. These conditions can have severe physical and psychological consequences.
  • Major Life-Transitions: Changes in a teen’s family relationships, relocation, relationship changes with friends or other life changes may lead to severe stress, depression, anxiety or other mental health issues.
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD): Teens with ADHD may struggle with impulsivity, inattention, and hyperactivity, which can impact their academic and social functioning.
  • Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and conduct disorder: Some exhibit disruptive, aggressive, or antisocial behaviors that can lead to conflicts at home, school, and with the law.
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD): Those who have experienced traumatic events may suffer from PTSD, leading to flashbacks, nightmares, and emotional distress.
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD): Someone with OCD may have intrusive thoughts and engage in repetitive behaviors to alleviate anxiety.
  • Peer and family conflicts: Some may struggle with conflicts within their families and peer groups, which can contribute to stress and mental health challenges.
